HSI Assessment Tool (ASSESS)
STATUS: Currently Available
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
ASSESS is used to perform Human Systems Integration (HSI) comparative assessment of a set of HSI concepts. An HSI concept usually entails a candidate allocation of system functions to human operators and/or a human operator role or set of roles. HSI concepts may vary in terms of the degree of automation ranging from manual to fully automated. The candidate concepts will usually have been defined using the SHIP-SHAPE tools to conduct HSI analyses such as functional analysis, function decomposition, top-down requirements analysis, task analysis, task-network simulation, etc. These analyses will have resulted in data that characterize the alternative HSI concepts.
ASSESS is a tool for using the data output from HSI analyses to assign assessment criterion values to the competing HSI concepts, to weight the importance of the criteria and to develop a total assessment score for each HSI concept in order to support concept selection. ASSESS uses criterion values and criterion weights to compute an objective function that provides an assessment score for each HSI concept.
